I love cars, but do almost no wrenching of my own. Yet I love my Sunchaser, my Vespa, my lawyermobile, and even my wife’s minivan more than I should.
What makes an enthusiast? I may not be wrenching my cars, but I did build a pond and a zip line in my backyard, so that has to count for something.
But I will always defer to those who get physically in to work on their cars - what I pay others to do.
Typically have given me joy with posts.of dead cars brought back to life, so here’s a blue catfish from my homemade pond.
Much love to all of you.

There’s several of us about who are not good with the wrench. We still enjoy our cars thoroughly, but we’re smart enough to know when we’re in over our head, too.
Not everyone has the spare time/garage space/money to dedicate to wrenching. But you don’t need those things to love what you drive or drive what you love.

I’m in the same boat really. I can do basic upkeep on my vehicles but anything more and I’ll need some expert help. I’m just not mechanically inclined in any way unfortunately.
This does not mean that I do not enjoy my cars or other people’s, or learning the history of all the different carmakers out there. Basically saying that someone can’t be a car enthusiast because they can’t work (or own) a modern or classic car is like saying you can’t enjoy a sport because you never played professionally.

We are all the same Oppo. The Oppo manifests in each of us differently, as it flows throughout the universe. All we must do is embrace the Oppo given to us.

I actually find it incredibly difficult and painful to go to a shop instead of trying to do the work myself. Even if I end up bloody, beaten, and frustrated, it still is better than giving up my car for a couple days. The issue is that while it may only take 3 to 4 hours for some repair in a shop, you have to wait for an appointment to open up, then wait for the official diagnosis to start work, wait in line to actually get work done, and then wait for them to finish. This whole process for that 3 hours of work is easily a day or two. Now if I do it myself with absolutely no idea how to fix my problem, I can watch some youtube videos and read up on the issue and have it done in a solid 6 hours. Yes it took me double the time for the actual work but I got my car back in half the time or less.
Maybe its just because I have only one car. So giving up my car means having to uber home or get a rental car. Whereas doing it myself, normally means I am busy anyways so I don’t need a car at the time. I think if I had more cars, I would be more willing to leave a shop to do things that would waste my time. But with only one car, it is a major life altering event to try and function without it for a couple days.
